In the article on the results of the RECALO customer satisfaction survey 2025, you learned that for every completed survey, the collection of over 570 plastic bottles was financed.
This initiative is backed by this year’s partner organization, Plastic Bank. To find out who this partner is and how the plastic collection is actually implemented, the most important information about Plastic Bank’s work and mission is presented below.
Plastic Bank: A network for change
What began as an innovative model has quickly evolved into a global network with a measurable impact. Plastic Bank has established over 640 “Social Recycling” collection points in countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Brazil, Egypt, and Thailand. These centers act as the hubs of a movement that is cleaning the environment while creating sustainable livelihoods.
The numbers speak for themselves: in 2024 alone, over 43 million kilograms of plastic were collected—the equivalent of more than two billion plastic bottles that never reached the ocean. At the same time, the program has directly improved the lives of over 30,000 collectors and their families. Through this system, Plastic Bank is fostering a regenerative economy where both people and the planet can thrive.

Turning Waste into a Currency for a Better Life
© Plastic Bank
The key to Plastic Bank’s solution is Social Plastic®, a concept that turns plastic waste into a currency for social advancement. At local collection centers, members can exchange the plastic they’ve gathered for digital credits in their accounts. These transactions are processed transparently and securely on a blockchain-based platform, giving collectors direct access to their earnings.
Instead of just a cash payout, participants can use their credits to pay for essentials like groceries, clean water, cooking fuel, school tuition, and even health insurance. The collected material is then recycled and sold to companies as certified Social Plastic®, providing them with an ethical and sustainable raw material for their products.
